[Fic: Dream SMP] home is where the heart is

He shouldn’t have gone back, but he can’t say no when the letter comes in the mail — Schlatt practically begs him to come as fast as he can, and although he doesn’t want to see that place again, he can’t possibly say no.

Because home is where the heart is, and although he’s grown attached to the more down to earth shenanigans of Live, Schlatt’s gone off to campaign in Dream SMP and Connor’s home is wherever Schlatt is.

AO3

Connor wishes he could view his home as a safe haven, and he wishes returning there brought warmth and reunion.

But for Connor, home is a cruel mistress — all that place seems to do is take things away from him.

(Not like he has much else.)

So he returns, as much as he doesn’t want to. And he doesn’t recognize a thing.

He doesn’t know any of these people or places, he’s been away from Dream SMP far too long.

And of course, the eerie presence of his once father figure / mentor lurks in the atmosphere. He tries to ignore it, pushing XD to the back of his mind.

But all this place does is take things away.

Connor left for a reason, and there’s nothing for him to return to. He’s left completely alone in what should be his home — instead an unfamiliar uncanny valley that he recognizes nothing of.

And he’s too late by the time he arrives, of course.

(If home is where the heart is, what happens when the heart is gone?)
