AO3While being on Yellow isn’t the worst possible fate, it does make you scared and skittish as hell, unlike the Reds, who are much more prone to vengeance-seeking.
Connor’s been holed up in their base for days now, planning. Refuses to leave, though he denies he’s scared at all. Schlatt knows he’s full of it, but he lets him keep his dignity.
(Mostly ‘cause he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t also scared shitless.)
“Everyone on this server’s a thieving, no-good, two-timing bastard, Connor.”
Connor’s ear twitches, and he looks up from where he’s working on sketching out a blueprint for a literal get-rich-quick scheme using energy condensers.
“That describes us as well, and you know that, Schlatt.”
Schlatt scoffs, but he doesn’t argue – he knows Connor’s right, so it would be a waste of breath.
“How’s your project coming along?” He asks instead, leaning over the shorter man’s shoulder to take a look at the messy plan he’s drawn out.
“Fine, I suppose.” Connor mumbles, adjusting his goggles on his head. “These things are tricky. I hate technology, dude.”
“Get over it, so does everyone else.” Schlatt replies. “But we need it if we want to make it.”
“Right, right,” Connor says. He stands from where he’s seated, stretching with a yawn. “If we don’t want to end up like we did earlier. Dying to those clowns? Embarrassing as fuck.”
Schlatt grimaces at the memory of their skirmish with the “Exploding Babies”, or whatever they’re calling themselves – Sneeg and Poke. They’d managed to steal from Schlatt & Co.’s oil supply easily, and knock them down one life in the process.

Connor’s sat himself back down and resumed his sketching at this point, though it doesn’t last long, as their intern barges in rather unceremoniously.
Ty’s… An interesting kid. Still a Green, and he’s too young to be affected by the bonding phenomenon. Keeps himself out of trouble, despite the company he finds himself in.
Connor worries about him. Feels sorry he has to grow up in a place like this, in all honesty.
Schlatt & Co. have basically taken the kid in as their ward at this point – it felt cruel to leave him all by himself where he’d likely get picked off easily. So instead, they offered him a place to stay and protection under the guise of a no-pay, for-exposure internship.
It’s for his own good, Connor thinks.
He scribbles out his blueprint, crumpling the page up and throwing it aside as he starts over.
This time. This time he’ll get it right.
(He wishes they had as many lives as they had pieces of scrap paper.)
